The Senior High School (SHS) Department of Riverside College took part in the institutional celebration of the 63rd Foundation Week with the theme, “Celebrating Unity @ 63,” held from August 14 to 19, 2017. The Senior High School Department, together with the Riverside Supreme Student Government, organized a series of events such as the Fun Run, Math and Science Quiz Bowl, Debate Face-off Competition, Literary Musical, Senior High School Day, and the Araw ng Lahi that highlighted the weeklong celebration.
To start the Foundation Week, the Fun Run, held on August 14, challenged the students to a 3-km run from the New Government Center to Riverside College which was immediately followed by a Zumba exercise. The Cluster A-Team A with its members, Rey Marde Togle, Haley Jireh Salon, and Joann Dominique Uy, were hailed as the winners of the Math and Science Quiz Bowl held on the same day.
The Wall Painting and Photography Competition on August 15 were simultaneously held at the Car Park 2 of the campus. The winners for the said competitions were Angelika Odango, Ricky Sibog, Keisha Miravalles, April Sapungan, and Danica Lotayo from Cluster A and Jorrie Hilario from Cluster C, respectively.
The first ever SHS Debate Face-off Competition tackled issues such as the regulation of the LTFRB of Grab and Uber, the legalization of death penalty in the Philippines, shifting of the form of government to federalism, and allowing the use of iPads, tablets and laptops in classroom learning which concluded the Cluster C Debate Team as the Champion. Cluster A was declared as the Overall Champion of the SHS Literary Musical Competition 2017 last August 16, which included the events, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dagliang Pananalita, English and Filipino Declamation, Character Impersonation, Vocal Solo Classical, Vocal Solo OPM, Vocal Duet, and Hiphop Dance Competition with Cluster C as the 1st Runner-up and Cluster D as the 2nd Runner-up.
SHS Day with the theme, “Iridescence: Burst of Colors” took place on August 17 and began with the open stage which was then concluded with a performance from the SHS faculty. Cluster C and A claimed the victory for the Spoken Poetry and Sabayang Pagbigkas, respectively, during the Araw ng Lahi last August 18. Different clubs and organizations also utilized the celebration to raise funds by facilitating booths all around the campus.
“The Senior High School Activities were well-attended, definitely well-disseminated and well-supported by all the Senior High School students, in fact I am very proud,” Miss Livia Bariesses, Principal of the Academic Track, said as she expressed pride for all the SHS activities during the Foundation Week.
